Nancy Gotter Gates
Nancy Gotter Gates grew up in Columbus, Ohio where she began writing poetry almost as soon as she learned to read and write, publishing her first poem at age eight. Marriage, motherhood and positions as public relations director for a school district, Girl Scout council and regional library precluded writing anything but news releases and newsletters for many years.
When she finally had an opportunity to switch to the fiction she'd always dreamed of writing, she began with the short story and had over two dozen published, including several mysteries, before she turned to writing novels.
She'd spend almost ten years living in Florida with its abundance of retirees along with a somewhat dark undercurrent of strange and nefarious happenings, and it seemed to be the perfect place to set murder mysteries.
Knowing that many mature adults love to read mysteries, which are so often populated by young heroines, she wanted to create a protagonist who would mirror these readers. She set out to write about issues that confront each of us as we age and mixed them with suspense and plot twists and turns that keep the reader intrigued.
